Dutch Doubles: Breathing New Life into Ballet

From the 16th of April until the 7th of May, The National Opera and Ballet will be premiering four ballets by four choreographers in collaboration with diverse artists outside of the ballet realm. All choreographers have distinct ties to the Netherlands. Hans Van Manen, a veteran of dutch ballet and hailed as the Mondrian of ballet, and Ton Simons former artistic director of Dance Works Rotterdam, are both native Nederlanders. Juanjo Arques originally from Murcia, Spain, was a member of the Dutch National Ballet for 8 years while Jorma Elo, a Finland Native, was a dancer with the Nederlands Dans Theater before becoming a full time choreographer.

Larry Clark at FOAM Tulsa & Teenage Lust

Tulsa (1971) & Teenage Lust (1983) are two controversial and separate collections from American photographer and film maker Larry Clark that are currently being presented at FOAM Amsterdam from the 13th of June until the 12th of September. Taken as a whole piece, together the images display an inherent vision of youth and beauty in his work. It is obvious that Clark finds beauty in the chaos and improvidence of youth, with a symbolic juxtaposition of guns, cigarettes and heroin needles, it becomes obvious that something like this could only be shot from the inside.

World Press Photo 2014: World Tour Starts in Amsterdam

The 57th World Press Photo Contest will be held at De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam on the 18th of April this year. World Press Photo will be displaying over 150 breathtaking press photos of the 53 winners.
